Foreigners are allowed to buy the necessary medical insurance in Shenzhen even in your own country. Generally speaking, the person have to pay all the hospital fees in advance then get the receipts in order to reimburse from your health insurance company. However, it is a good idea to bring an copy of your prescription and some special medication in case of emergency. Mostly, your host institution will guide you to buy the insurance or offer one for you, so do not worry about that.
